Seth Price

At the Kunsthalle Zurich Seth Price debuts new work in a specific installation, together with selected pieces from the last few years. These include vacuum-formed plastic reliefs, crumpled mylar forms printed with video stills, and recent "silhouette" compositions, based on negative spaces taken from low quality internet pictures of common human interactions, and crafted out of wood veneer and plastic using a fabrication technique developed for the purpose of creating a new "look and feel": a design quality that had not previously existed, but very well could. Like much of his work, these pieces depend as much on industrial production methods as on digital sources and manipulation.

Kitty Kraus

At an initial glance the work of German artist Kitty Kraus (born 1976, lives and works in Berlin) suggests a close affinity with the forms and settings of Minimal Art and Constructivism: elementary forms, a reduced colour palette, the use of everyday prefabricated industrial materials such as glass, neon tubes, light bulbs, adhesive tape, fabric, tar, ink and water. Closer examination reveals, however, that the geometrised and orderly world of these forms is at odds with their arrangements and characterised by fragmentarisation, dissolution, threatened instability, destruction, the loss of control and the supremacy of the forms.

Kendell Geers - POSTPUNKPAGANPOP

de Pury & Luxembourg is proud to present POSTPUNKPAGANPOP, the first solo exhibition at the gallery by South African born artist Kendell Geers (b. 1968).

Five white neon works based on old master paintings of crucifixes welcome you in the first room and illuminate a 3.5 m tall corten steel house of cards. In the artist's unique graphic language, the cards read the seven virtues and the seven deadly sins.

Louise Bourgeois - La Rivière Gentille

A metaphor for memory, for a life looked back upon, Louise Bourgeois's "La Rivière Gentille" (2007) is an astonishingly beautiful series on paper that wraps its way in three tiers around the upstairs gallery. Made up of 42 mixed media sheets, each almost a metre long, the series interweaves imagery and phrases from a text the artist wrote in the mid-‘60s which looks back upon her childhood in France. Moments of ecstasy, vivid incidents and dark passages are recollected in a liquid palette of blue, red and black, which snakes its way across each individual sheet. Bourgeois dwells upon sensate experience – the physical world of things and the pleasure they bring – whilst summoning the inexorable, onward flow of existence.

Exhibition

Masked ball by
 RothStauffenberg

"Carnival is a pageant without a stage and without a division into performers and spectators. In the carnival everyone is an active participant, everyone communes in the carnival act. Carnival is lived. Carnival is the world turned inside out." Mikhail M. Bakhtin

Masked balls are too much. For guests and hosts alike. We're dreading it already.

This exhibition has been organised to mark the 30th anniversary of the Migros-Genossenschafts-Bund's collecting activities, and has involved a three-year overhaul of the entire collection. A large number of old and new works from the collection is being displayed, encompassing all the various collection periods - from Minimalism and Conceptual Art in the 1960s and 1970s to contemporary works setting socio-political, performative, glamorous or surreal strategies off against each another.

We have pleasure in presenting new work by the German painter Franz Ackermann (born in 1963 in Neumarkt St. Veit, lives and works in Berlin und Karlsruhe) at our next exhibition. Franz Ackermann is an important representative of contemporary German painting. His work is exhibited regularly in international museums and galleries, for example at the Domus Artium in Salamanca in 2007, in the Kestner Gesellschaft in Hanover and the Witte de With centre in Rotterdam in 2006, at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin in 2005 and at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam in 2002. Mai 36 Galerie has been staging regular exhibitions of his work since 1997.

Dongwook Lee - Cross Breeding

"I want to create horror images that are "dismal yet lyrical", abbreviating any narrative, appending neither explanation nor ethical message. In this way, my imagery retains a volatile sharpness which can cut to the core. Scenes reminiscent of horror films are a recurrent element of my latest work." (Dongwook Lee)

In the new exhibition entitled "Cross Breeding" forteen sculptures of the Korean artist Dongwook Lee will be shown. It is the first solo show of the artist in Switzerland. In his sculptures the artist Dongwook Lee is scrutinising and dissecting the human form as well as the human being under a cold scientific gaze.
