Ezra Johnson is always in motion. Whether he is creating hundreds - sometimes thousands - of individual painting stills in the animations for which he is so well-known, or developing a new technique of fabricating an indoor/outdoor fiberglass mattress or oversize sponge, or cutting apart and reassembling a painting with industrial adhesive, or literally (and constantly) commuting between Florida where he teaches and his studio in Brooklyn and the better part of the last decade living and working in London, the man is a bundle of kinetic energy and flux. Alexander and Bonin will begin the fall season with a one-person exhibition of recent work by Mona Hatoum. On view in the front gallery will be "Twelve Windows" (2012-13), an installation comprised of one-meter-square embroidered pieces of fabric, attached with wooden clothe pins at irregular intervals to a steel cable which traverses the room. These twelve embroidered panels are the work of Inaash; a Lebanese NGO founded in 1969 to provide employment for Palestinian women in refugee camps in Lebanon. Read more...
