Arnold Helbling - Building C

Von Lintel Gallery is pleased to present "Building C", an exhibition of new paintings by Arnold Helbling. In his latest body of work, Arnold Helbling takes his signature style of deconstructive, post-apocalyptic space and turns it on its head. The work is now additive. Helbling systematically builds information, not side-by-side or step-by-step, but somehow simultaneously, shifting from one reality to another, before taking it away, blocking it out with clouds of color or rigid squares of paint and paper. Time and space fade in and out and planes bleed into one another, building layers that are locked in space with no clear sense of chronology or vantage point.

Anton Henning - German Enlightenment

Zach Feuer Gallery is pleased to present "German Enlightenment," the gallery's second exhibition of work by German artist Anton Henning.

The exhibition comprises 15 paintings spanning from 2000 to 2008 and offering an insightful overview of Henning's painterly preoccupations over the last years. The titles - all the works are entitled "Interior", "Portrait" or "Still life" - announce rather traditional paint motifs. But Henning's headstrong definition of these motifs challenges our way to categorize art by blurring the borders between the different genres:

Beatriz Milhazes - New Work

James Cohan Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new works by artist Beatriz Milhazes. As one of the most celebrated Brazilian artists working today, Milhazes' exuberantly colored, rhythmically constructed abstract paintings, collages, prints and architectural installations are well-known worldwide. Milhazes merges all of the formal concerns inherent in abstract painting with a dizzying hybrid of influences that bounce off of each other to produce works in which, as the artist describes, "culture eats culture." In her attempt to make the viewer's eye "spin around," Milhazes deftly uses images as a distribution system for color.

Awarded the Golden Lion Prize at the 52nd Venice Biennale (2007), Fogarasi has designed his show at Lombard Freid around representations of place and the power of image branding in America. His work explores the mechanisms by which architecture and public space are constructed as both sites of daily experience and as spaces defined by political, economic and cultural interests.

D'Amelio Terras is pleased to present three new sculptures by gallery artist Nicole Cherubini. These large-scale pieces address compartmentalized processes of the clay tradition through Cherubini's exploratory merging of raw building materials, structural forms and surface ornamentation.

Cherubini's sculptures have been built by stacking clay forms on top of uncoated MDF, plywood, hunks of marble and alabaster. Turquoise tiles, spin-art cubes and pinched clay wreaths tether wooden armatures and grotesquely oversized Eva Hesse-inspired handles.

Adam Dant - Temples and Theatres

British artist Adam Dant has been compared to the 18th century English artist, William Hogarth, in satirically exposing human folly. Last year he spent six months in the offices of the major English hedge fund companies studying the architecture, appointments, and the socio-behavioral aspects of the participants. Recently he has been interested in architecture, especially buildings and public spaces.

Morgan Lehman is pleased to present "The Good Land", a solo exhibition featuring new works by Eric Beltz. Beltz's highly detailed graphite drawings address America's colonial history and our lack of connection to nature. The work also attempts to instill a sense of hope and healing in scenes of despair and disillusionment. Beltz's narratives are populated with figures of anonymous farmers and our founding fathers, and incorporate images of medicinal plants, native animals and texts from the Bible and the Egyptian and Tibetan books of the dead.
