Marion Meyer Contemporain has promoted the work of Werner Büttner for several years. Born in the 1950s, this German artist, like his contemporaries Albert Oehlen and Martin Kippenberger, was part of the “Neue Wilde” or “Junge Wilde”, movement in which its adherents turned away from conceptual art and advocated a “return to painting”. Before, there was, for example, Contre le consensus mou in Libourne, Le monde est tellement humain and Repentirs mécaniques in Bordeaux, to mention just a few exhibition titles that resonate like Henry Miller’s The Air-Conditioned Nightmare.
