Fantastic Nobodies - Operation Shitstorm

brot.undspiele Galerie

Kay Neubert
Gartenstrasse 2
10115 Berlin
Exhibition
Online since 6 July 2008

The "Fantastic Nobodies" was born in 2003 out of total disillusionment, when the White House increasingly employed Fascist-esque irrational propaganda and media coverage of the war in Iraq resembled B-slasher flicks. In midst of this political zeitgeist, the six founding artists Marc Grubstein, Brock Enright, Steve Johnson, Daniel Joseph, Chad Spicer and David Henry Brown Jr. collaborated to form the "Fantastic Nobodies". Erik Niedling - Formation

Hamish Morrison Galerie

Heidestrasse 46-52
10557 Berlin
Exhibition
Online since 1 July 2008

This first solo exhibition by artist Erik Niedling (*1973 Erfurt) in Berlin shows a new series of photographies titled "FORMATION".

The show includes images from numbered cacti species including their roots, tools of unclear purpose arranged by size, plants with delicate root patterns or anonymous hands holding plants in front of the camera. A large scale image shows women at a work table who appear to be sorting something. The table is located in the centre of a hall, the right wall of which is covered by an archival cupboard with small drawers. A special technique results in all images having the appearance of negatives whose sharp black and white contrasts are partially complemented by mysterious red or violet hues. Read more...

Der zweite Teil des diesjährigen Ausstellungszyklus ":endlich menschlich" wendet sich einer künstlerischen Thematik zu, die nicht immer hält was sie verspricht: Humor. Axel Hütte - Fog & Fire

Galerie Wilma Tolksdorf

Zimmerstrasse 88-91
10117 Berlin
Exhibition
Online since 27 April 2008

Galerie Wilma Tolksdorf presents Axel Hütte for the first time in its Berlin space.

In search of his motifs, Axel Hütte travels the world. Under the title "Fog & Fire", the renowned photo artist continues his cycle of landscapes, once again taking up the theme of fog and smoke. These most recent works were photographed mainly in New Mexico and Central and South America.

Axel Hütte approaches his carefully composed works with very clear visual ideas. Sometimes he waits for days for the right light. As he explained in an interview, the goal for him "is not to reproduce small structures one-on-one", but rather "the greatest possible atmospheric condensation". He achieves this beautifully in his new works. Read more...
