Miriam Cahn (b. 1949) is a leading figure in recent Swiss art. The works assembled at the Aargauer Kunsthaus bear witness to her intense preoccupation with the body, while at the same time raising existential issues regarding current events and social conditions. Adolf Stäbli - My paintings are about experience rather than invention

Storms and bad weather, dramatically roiling clouds, windblown treetops and rain­covered plains - this is vintage Adolf Stäbli (1842­-1901), the painter and draughtsman from Brugg in the Canton of Aargau. Stäbli was highly acclaimed during his lifetime for his atmospherically charged landscapes, not just in Switzerland but also far beyond its borders and especially in his adopted home, Munich. "My paintings are about experience rather than invention," Stäbli has been quoted as saying, thereby providing a template for viewing his works and the title for this exhibition at the Aargauer Kunsthaus. Based in Berlin and Zürich, the artist Bertold Stallmach (b. 1984) is creating new work for his CARAVAN presentation at the Aargauer Kunsthaus titled "Dreisatz der Identität" (Identity's Rule of Three). It is part of the tradition of the Aargauer Kunsthaus to also, indeed, to especially draw attention to artists who pursue their creative visions far from the avant-gardes or the art market. The works of such artists are often characterized by a certain "inwardness" and it is these artistic practices that are the subject of "On the Border", an exhibition featuring works from the collection and, as a special focus, the art of Gertrud Debrunner (1902–2000) that visualises the show's theme in exemplary fashion.
