John Szarowski war Leiter der Abteilung für Fotografie am MOMA New York während der sechziger bis in die neunziger Jahre. 1966 hat er in seiner wegweisenden Analyse "The Photographer's Eye", fünf Kriterien beschrieben, welche in einem perfekten fotografischen Bild enthalten sein müssen.

In den letzten Jahrzehnten aber insbesondere verstärkt in den letzten Jahren, setzt sich eine neue Auffassung "figurativer" Kunst durch, die vornehmlich von Künstlerinnen vorgetragen wird. Im Gegensatz zur traditionellen Malerei wird nicht mehr der Körper als physische Erscheinung oder dessen Abstraktion dargestellt, sondern eine Figur, die als Ausdruck eines Empfindens der eigenen Körperlichkeit zu bezeichnen ist.

The Iranian artist Baktash Sarang creates mostly autobiographical works criticising disturbing political developments and unpleasent affairs of today's world, sometimes directly and provocative, sometimes in a more subtle way. Today he lives and works in Strasbourg. However, he returns from time to time to his hometown to feel the country and to see what is going on the streets.

Fatima Chafaa - Far from the Walls of Takamara

Fatima Chafaa was born in 1973 in Algiers, where she currently lives and works. She practiced as a photographer for a few years, then resumed her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts of Algiers until 2006. Her work is a mixture of photographs and installations, on personal themes of ambiguity and ambivalence are the daily, the unconscious is dissected in a relationship of observer observed.

Yüksel Arslan - Artures

Until recently, Turkish artist Yüksel Arslan (born 1933, lives and works in Paris) remained almost unknown to a broader public. The exhibition at Kunsthalle Zürich presents for the first time a selection of over 200 works since 1959 outside of Turkey and focuses on the so called "Artures", works on paper using a unique technique.

Die Galerie Bob Gysin präsentiert mit "Les Voyageurs Immobiles II" die erste Einzelausstellung nach dem tragischen Tod von Bessie Nager im Januar 2009. Die Zusammenarbeit von Bessie Nager und der Galerie Bob Gysin begann 1993 nachdem Bob Gysin ihre Arbeiten ca. 1991 zum ersten Mal in einer Gruppenausstellung entdeckte. Eine intensive und fruchtbare Zusammenarbeit entwickelte sich.

He is the 2009 recipient of the Mies van der Rohe grant of the city of Krefeld and has curated two exhibitions at Mu.ZEE Ostende with Phillip van den Bossche. His work is currently on view in a group show at Casino Luxembourg.
