Barnaby Hosking - New Work

Groeflin Maag Galerie is pleased to present its first solo exhibition with British artist Barnaby Hosking. In the exhibition entitled "New Work", Hosking is presenting two new video installations.

"The two works, "Netsuke" and "Untitled III" were made during the summer of 2008 and compliment each other to operate as a coherent installation.

"Netsuke" employs a linear description of the making of a Netsuke sculpture in a specially built structure using a natural spotlight from the sun from which to focus ones attention, a technique which was used by artists in Japan before the advent of electric light.

Christoph Hauri kombiniert in mehreren Arbeitsschritten der Durchdrückzeichnung Monotypiearbeiten als eine Art Zeichnerei als eine Art Malerei als eine Art Doppeltheit beider ineinander. Er nennt dies disparate Malzeichen.

Hauris Papierarbeiten sind eine eindrückliche Umsetzung von Naturstudie ihrer seltenen Art einerseits und dem Erinnern und Ablesen eines nachschweifenden, motivischen Kometenzopfes andererseits.

Joe Goode - Paint is Nature

Seiler + Mosseri-Marlio Galerie freut sich, die erste Einzelausstellung des amerikanischen Künstlers Joe Goode (USA, 1937) in der Schweiz zu präsentieren. Joe Goode war neben Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Ed Ruscha und Jim Dine in der Ausstellung "New Painting of Common Objects" vertreten, die 1962, von Walter Hobbs im Pasadena Art Museum kuratiert, als eine der ersten Pop Art Ausstellung grossen Einfluss ausübte.

Seit den Anfängen des message salon im Jahre 1996 ist A. C. Kupper wiederholt und regelmässig als Künstler, Musiker und DJ in Ausstellungen und Aktionen im message salon in Erscheinung getreten. In der Ausstellung "Revolutionäre Mittelklasse" zeigt A. C. Kupper neue, für die Ausstellung in der Perla-Mode entstandene Arbeiten.

"Hans Diez starb am 2.12.1992. Sein Schreibtisch wurde zu Lebzeiten "la pièce sacrée" genannt, da es niemandem erlaubt war, die Schubladen zu öffnen. Nach seinem Tod blieb das Arbeitszimmer für weitere 15 Jahre unangetastet. Als letztes Jahr seine Frau starb, erhielten wir den Auftrag, den Inhalt des Schreibtischs zu entsorgen. Doch wir verpackten ihn in Schachteln und nahmen diese mit." (Köhle/Vermot Petit-Outenin)

Maximilian Zentz Zlomovitz - Elysium Dream

Karma International presents the first solo exhibition by Berlin based artist Maximilian Zentz Zlomovitz in Switzerland. In "Elysium Dream" he presents a sculptural installation especially made for the space such as a new series of burned drawings.

The title of the show refers to a fictional figure, a state of utopia. The environment Zentz Zlomivitz creates can be read as a setting for a fiction or a dream. Using materials such as PVC, metall, mirrors and burned objects he conjures up an esthetic of the 70-ties and 80-ties. Yet these works do not act as props but have to be transplated within the work.

David Hominal - Stilleven

Lullin + Ferrari are delighted to present Lausanne based artist David Hominal (b. 1976 Evian) in his first important solo exhibition in Zurich. In 2007 Hominal's solo show at the Musée cantonal des Beaux-Arts in Lausanne, fetchingly titled "You'll Never Walk Alone" attracted much attention amongst the general public and the art world. The title refers to a 1963 song by Gerry & The Pacemakers, sung by the supporters of Liverpool Football Club moments before the start of each home game. Indeed Hominal didn't walk alone for long. The museum bought works and a catalogue was published.

Katherine Newbegin - Hotel Turist

Haas & Fischer is delighted to present for the first time in Switzerland the work of the American photographer Katherine Newbegin (*1976, Portland, Oregon). The artist lives and works in Berlin and New York.

In her photography Katherine Newbegin shows deserted hotel lobbies and seemingly uncanny rooms. The American finds her impetus in Poland, East Germany, Cuba, Croatia and in the ex-soviet republics of Lithuania, Moldova, and Belarus. For over four years, the photographer has located and captured the monumental tourist architecture from the former communist countries.

Mario Ybarra Jr. - Scarface Museum... For All I Know He Had My Friend Angel Killed

"Scarface Museum... For All I Know He Had My Friend Angel Killed" is the title of the first European solo exhibition of Mario Ybarra Jr. (1973), an artist living in Los Angeles, whom we are happy to present here in Zurich. Ybarra has won broad international recognition for, among others, his solo exhibition at the CCA Wattis Institute of Contemporary Arts in San Francisco, as well as for his contributions to the Whitney Biennial, New York (2008), the Prague Biennale 3, the Tate Modern and the Serpentine Gallery, both in London.

Martha Colburn - Games Hunters Play

Within the scope of Suzie Q Projects, Birgid Uccia and Bob van Orsouw are happy to present, for the first time in Switzerland, a solo exhibition by the American artist Martha Colburn. Colburn was born 1971 in Pennsylvania and lives and works in New York and Amsterdam.

Colburn's work has become widely known through a solo exhibition at the Frankfurter Kunstverein and her participation at the Whitney Biennial in New York, as well as at many prestigious international film festivals. Within the framework of Art Statements at this year's Art Basel, Colburn's 7-minute animated film "Myth Labs" (2008) was shown.
