Assemblage
The Galerie Laurent Godin is pleased to announce "Assemblage", an exhibition combining works by Scoli Acosta, Hsia-Fei Chang, Lamarche & Ovize, Corinne Marchetti, and Vincent Olinet.
Five artists from diverse horizons: Scoli Acosta lives in Los Angeles, Hsia-Fei Chang is from Taipei and lives in Paris, Lamarche & Ovize are quite nomadic, Corinne Marchetti lives in Marseilles and Vincent Olinet has just moved to Brussels after spending two years at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam.
Five artists under the age of 35 who have already had personal shows at the gallery but whose most recent works invite us to take fresh stock.
At first glance, the different practices have nothing in common, yet meeting points between the exhibited works can be noted. They all share a "modest" approach to their making. Often realised using poor materials - recycled or recovered - the pieces are "hand made" in the studio but claim no special know-how or particular technical skill. The works are on the scale of the body and reject monumental authoritarianism.
These assemblages of materials, references and borrowings seem to produce a syntax, narratives in the form of a rebus through the association of fragments of meaning.
