"I will never again be as pure and stupid as white paper" (Element of Crime)

Swiss artist Andreas Marti (born 1967, Zurich) strives for something that he knows cannot be found. Christinger De Mayo is happy to present this process of searching in a solo exhibition. To celebrate the short summer we change our opening hours for a month; as night gallery we welcome you from 4 to 10 pm.

In his "Erweiterte Enzyklopädie" Andreas Marti meets the challenge to illustrate the knowledge as a whole graphically. His survey is consciously subjective; nevertheless, his picture cosmos grows within a rigorous experimental setting. He creates a perspective that is part of the whole, displaying a fraction of our common reality; yet, it is also embedded in parallel universes, that are just outside of our perception; we rather sense them than we grasp them.

A large sculpture, a "foundling", is placed in the gallery's initial space as if God had crumpled a sheet of paper from his monumental sketchbook and carelessly discarded it; as if this paper chunk then shattered, like a comet, and now is being x-rayed in a metaphysical laboratory to manifest its significance. Despite its sculptural appearance the work – in reference to Andreas Marti's drawings and wall works in the back room – may be read as a "sketch in space", as means for exploring all three dimensions. Olafur Eliasson and Einstein believe(d) that time and space are inseparable. For a work of art this implies not only to position it in its "geographical" surroundings, but to pin it to the present, too. The "foundling" therefore only depicts a certain moment in time; one could call it "the prolongation of the moment into space".
