In the coming exhibition, agnès b.'s Librairie Galerie will bring you to a journey to the amazing and playful "Sissy Circus"!!

"Sissy Circus" is a fictional circus created by Robert Estermann. Integrated with a selection, mostly from the past three years, of his different works which the artist refers to "Singularities", the exhibition conveys a unique network of the surprising, the playful, the elegant, the minimal, and the seemingly child-like but also cunning. In his practice, the artist refuses a simple set of codes, but instead seeks to "explore, inhabit and celebrate the degrees of grey in reality". Works shown in the exhibition include works about coming into age (Transparent Kindergartens Above Streets, Brnd mrror kds srrnd accdnt), alongside works on identity (Portrait, Alex in Town, Anthropomorphic Shield, Vampire City), modernity (Modern Day, Modern Beach Design) and perception (The Independent, Two Sticks).

Robert Estermann was born and grew up in a small village in Switzerland. Since his childhood, he practiced drawing, writing, and a form of impromptu theatre he invented himself. Lines, in particular, always fascinated him , because they are simple yet powerful, and lines play a central role in his work until this day.

"Often crossing different media (photography, video, drawing, and poetics), Robert Estermann is able to tease out the subtle nuances inherent in his subject matter, to produce work of extraordinary beauty, simplicity, and sensuality. Moreover, he is able to do this in a rather unique way, combining a certain kind of modesty with forceful insight." (Sue Golding)

"Through the works of Robert Estermann one is draughted to Ostia, Rome's beautiful unmannerly opening. Arriving in Ostia we are fresh paint; as the son of what comes about, everything becomes lighter and clearer, for the sun and the sea are always modern." (Adrian Lucas)
