In a unique work created for the Serpentine, the internationally acclaimed artist Marina Abramović will perform in the Gallery for the duration of her exhibition: 10am to 6pm, 6 days a week. One of the most prominent artists of his generation, Ed Atkins works primarily with High Definition video and text, exploiting and subverting the conventions of moving image and literature. Centred around an augmented and appended version of the new multi-screen video work "Ribbons", Atkins's exhibition transforms the Serpentine Sackler Gallery into a submersive environment of syncopated sounds, bodies and spaces. REDCAT hosts the first Los Angeles presentation by Jennifer Allora (USA, 1974) and Guillermo Calzadilla (Cuba, 1971). Collaborating since 1995, the artists are known for their experimental and interdisciplinary practice. The exhibition features one of their most recent video works, "Apotomē" (2013), and a new commissioned performance where the artists continue their investigation into the emerging fields of biosemiotics and biomusicology. In his first solo show in Europe, Bangladeshi writer and visual artist Naeem Mohaiemen deploys the Kunsthalle Basel as a staging ground for what he calls the "exploded history book." Trained as a researcher, Mohaiemen's films, photography, mixed media objects, and essays are based on the commingling of major and minor histories in relation to the subcontinental triangle of nations (Bangladesh, India, Pakistan), and the particular histories of multiple partitions of borders. The Kunstmuseum Bern is showing over 140 works of Swiss art dating from the 18th century up to modern times. They belong to the vast collection of the Foundation for Art, Culture and History, which was established in 1980 by the Winterthur patron of the arts Bruno Stefanini. Among other paintings, the exhibition is showcasing works by Cuno Amiet, Albert Anker, Arnold Böcklin, Alexandre Calame, Henry Fuseli, Giovanni and Augusto Giacometti, Ferdinand Hodler, Giovanni Segantini and Félix Vallotton. His atmospheric works are evocative of the landscape surrounding his studio in the Swedish countryside.
