"My new paintings bring together the still-life genre of 17th century Dutch painting with the rigorous methodology of Conceptual artists such as On Kawara, and his systematic approach of documenting time. The source material are postcards of photographic reproductions of paintings or photographs such as Cranach, La Tour, Freud, Sherman and domestic objects like scent bottles, jugs, jars and toy cars. Their references and associations show a wry humour, a dialogue with art history as with the nature of reproduction and repetition. The paintings are made from observation. The slow, detailed transformation into a painting places great emphasis on the process of the work."
